WHAT is “COWPOST”?
COWPOST is the Greener Acres approach to organic soil betterment. It is compost, but with a recipe designed to provide a natural, nutritional, odorless, and stable product. We literally cook our product. The high temperatures remove harmful organisms and kill weed seeds. The result—clean, stable, soil—ready for nourishing your lawn and garden.
WHAT is COWPOST Made From?
At Greener Acres we use a recipe that begins with fresh cow manure—an organic material. We add leaves, other yard clippings or horse manure to provide carbon (necessary for the composting process). Also, we use recycled coffee grounds which has been used as bedding for our dairy barns. The soil-like material which is the end product is essentially odorless and crumbly-soft to the touch. Our COWPOST is ALL NATURAL—it is landscape enhancement without chemicals.

IS ANYTHING HAPPENING HERE????
Composting is a biological process where microorganisms transform or decompose organic materials into a stable form. At GREENER ACRES, the recipe is mixed and turned into long piles called “windrows.” It is “aerated” (turned) three to four times per week, depending on the weather. The turning feeds air to the beneficial microorganisms. The aerobic microorganisms fed on carbon and nitrogen in the mixture. In turn, heat is produced which kills most pathogens, fly larvae and weed seeds. After six to eight weeks, the cowpost is “done” and essentially ready for market.
